Breaking into the real estate market is no easy task, but with the help of Carleton H. Sheets, it can be a whole lot easier. Author of the best-selling No Down Payment program, Sheets lets the public benefit from its experience of making millions in real estate. Its no-deposit home-study course has been successful for decades and it continues to provide educational opportunities to the public through its home-study courses and internet-based learning.
Carleton Sheets was born in Illinois where he lived for several years with his parents and younger brother before moving to Ohio. He went to college and graduated and ended up getting married and having two kids. During his career, he moved all over the United States with his various positions within the workforce. He lived in Illinois, Ohio, California, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida.
His entrepreneurial spirit began when he was a young boy by taking the initiative to mow lawns and deliver newspapers around the neighborhood for extra money. He borrowed money from his parents to start his business which he repaid as he earned money. When he was ready to join the corporate world, he took a position with Armstrong Cork and later with Lykes Pasco where he was fired for lack of experience.
He then decided to venture into the world of real estate where he had a difficult start. Having obtained his real estate license, he attempted to sell commercial properties starting with an apartment building. This failed as the building needed some work. Carleton took this as a sign and used his contacts to broker a partnership to buy the building himself. Carleton asked his partners to put all the money in while he led the set-up and coordination of the deal. A year and a half later, the building sold with a profit divided into three.
After five years of similar investment opportunities with and without partners, Carleton’s status as a successful real estate investor has skyrocketed. He was then the owner of nearly five hundred rental units. He has earned a reputation for finding lucrative deals, building creative finance procedures, rehabilitating properties and selling them for a profit.
The more he succeeded, the more he wanted to give back to the community and share his experience with others. He is an author and co-author of courses for the National Association of Realtors and the Real Estate Securities and Syndication Institute. He has also taught real estate investment strategies to the local community.
In 1984, No Money Down was born. In partnership with the Professional Education Institute, or PEI, Carlton Sheets has launched a campaign to market its program to the masses. He entered the speaking circuit, appeared on a variety of television and radio talk shows, was featured in magazines, and had the longest-running infomercial in history. Today, he is semi-retired but continues to invest and write. He recently had his courses modified to adapt them to the Internet as a way for millions to access and learn from his knowledge in real estate, all for free.
